Jodie Smith

Jodie is a self-employed attorney who works at the intersection of law and public policy. Her current projects focus on middle-income housing. She formerly led Education Equity advocacy at California Rural Legal Assistance, litigated civil & public law issues, and chaired the City of Oakland’s Public Ethics Commission. Prior to practicing law, Jodie worked in and around Texas state government for a state-level youth advocacy organization, in the state Legislature & public agencies, and as an adjunct Government instructor.

Jodie has a Master of Public Policy degree from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a law degree from UC Hastings. Jodie previously served on the board of the Queen’s Bench Bar Association and other non-profit organizations and currently is the President of a shareholder corporation that owns and self-manages a 56-unit residential housing cooperative.

Jodie is a lifelong dancer and loves music. She speaks Spanish. Her work and life ties are around Oakland, California and Austin, Texas. She’s admitted to practice law in Texas and California.
